OTHER LENTEN EVENTS- Healing in the city -- Wednesday, April 5 at 7:30 P.M.
To everything there is a season. Some seasons are long awaited. Some seasons come and go too quickly. The same can be said for outreach ministries. If you have been involved in some aspect of outreach at any time, either here at Memorial or beyond, or are interested in exploring how to incorporate outreach into your life please join us for the 2006 conversation focused on building outreach ministries at Memorial. Several years ago we gathered to brainstorm and out of that work several ministries were begun or deepened. Our fledgling work with Eutaw-Marshburn Elementary School and children in the city comes to mind. There continues to be interest around housing issues with several of us continuing to show interest in B.R.I.D.G.E. Newcomers ministry also blossomed. Several important ministries have presented themselves since the brainstorming - Death row outreach, anti-death penalty advocacy, the South Africa pilgrimage and Appalachian ministry. Now is a new season. The 10% tithe from the Rise Up Capital Campaign will soon be available and as a congregation we should consider how God is calling us to direct our time, talent and treasure. What are we passionate about? Martha will open the evening with prayer for our city followed by inventorying past and present outreach ministries. At the end of the evening we will break into smaller interest groups that will meet over the summer to explore where God is calling us and begin to make plans for how we can participate in the healing of our city. Contact The Rev. Martha Macgill or Anne Clewell with inquiries. We're excited about the possibilities.
LITURGICAL DANCE ON PALM SUNDAY
On April 9, Palm Sunday, we will be opening the 10:30 worship with liturgical dance. A practice will be held on Saturday, April 8 in the sanctuary. The dance will be led by two trained dancers as a processional of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. All people wishing to participate in this form of prayerful expression are welcome to join the dance – any ages and any level of experience. Clothing will be simple. Dancing will be accompanied with singing and drums. Please contact Stephanie Hull if you would like to join the dance or the drumming. 410-462-1832 or stephaniehull@comcast.net
