ECUMENICAL BLOOD DRIVE - The next blood drive will be held Monday, February 6, from 2:00 to 8:00pm in the Lower Parish Hall. Anyone who would like to make an appointment to donate blood or to give a couple of hours as a volunteer should call Mary Clawsey at (410) 889-6397.
PARENT/COUPLE GROUP - The second meeting of the Parent/Couple Group will be held on Sunday February 12, from 4-6pm at the home of John Webb and Julie Modlin. The group will socialize and discuss a short selection from My Grandfather's Blessing by Rachel Naomi Remen. The reading will be forwarded to those who are able to come. Extra help will be on hand to help with children if needed. Please bring an appetizer or dip to share. Though not limited to parents and couples, the intention of the group is to meet and discuss being a parent, educating children in our church, being a healthy part of a couple, and learning and sharing from one another.

BOOK CLUB - Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - The book to be discussed is Plainsong by Kent Haruf. A story of people’s ability to redeem themselves and heal wounds by moving to community. Please let the office know if you plan to attend. We meet at church - usually in the upper parish house – from 7.30 to 9 PM. Some of us gather at B’s around 6PM for fellowship and a light supper. All are welcome – even if you haven’t read the book. Upcoming date and selections for 2006: -April 5th - Hearts in Atlantis
THE BALTIMORE CHORAL ARTS SOCIETY will perform Sunday, February 26, 3PM in the beautifully renovated sanctuary (with its rare collection of Tiffany stained glass windows) of Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church at 1316 Park Avenue, in Bolton Hill. Tom Hall will conduct accompanied by Leo Wanenchak on piano and John Walker on organ. Tickets are $25 and $20 for seniors and students, and will be available at the door. SECOND ANNUAL HEALING DAY AT MEMORIAL!! The second Healing Retreat Day will be at Memorial on March 11th. Mark your calendars for this very special day. Time will be announced later. This years theme is "Time: Tyranny or Gift." We will have discussion, meditation, and yoga and other relaxing physical activities. Everyone enjoyed this time away form the everyday stress last year. The Pastoral Care Committee is working on making this, another special day for all attendees.
THE INQUIRER'S CLASS will begin meeting the first week of March. We had a huge turnout at our informational meeting on Sunday. If you think you might like to be included on this spiritual journey, please email or call Stewart+. 410-669-0220
PRAYER LIST: If someone you love is on the prayer list and can be removed to another section of the list OR THANKS BE TO GOD – can be taken off, please let the office know. Our prayer list is again growing long – but we never want to take off anyone off that needs to be there.
Samaritan Community: FOOD PANTRY : juice, vitamins, cold remedies, fruit, and cerealSOPHIA, our church cat and outreach minister extraordinaire, is once again in need of cat litter and food. She's not picky about the litter, but for some reason she only eats the name-brand, dry, indoor cat food. The next time you are at the store, please pick up an extra bag for her and bring it to church. She helps bring in new members and keeps out those other members who are not welcome . . . the mice.
EUTAW-MARSHBURN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students need both LISTENERS and READERS. The 2nd graders need folks who will both read to them and listen to them read. The time is mostly in the morning first thing but can be adjusted in cooperation with the teacher. This would be for 1/2 hour or so at a time . Barbara Cates has been a member of Memorial since 1981 but may be a new face to many since she has lived overseas five of the last seven years, working as a Foreign Service Officer for the State Department. She is a “regular” at the 8:30 Contemporary Eucharist, Sunday evening Taizé prayer, and Tuesday morning Peace and Justice Eucharist. She and her husband, Matthew Stremba, were married at Memorial in 1986. She was on the Vestry from 1996 to 1998, coordinated the Blood Drive through the mid-1990s, has served on the Stewardship Committee, and is an Education for Ministry (EFM) graduate and a trained Listening Hearts discerner.
Alice Peake has been a member of Memorial for 32 years. She and her husband Brian were married here in 1989, and their son Jonathan was baptized here in 1994. At the age of 10, Alice and her sister became the first female acolytes at Memorial, a service Alice continues today. She served one term on the Vestry in the late 1990s and was Senior Warden during Memorial’s interim period between rectors and during Martha’s first year here. Alice also serves as a chalicist, worked on the Rummage Sale, taught Godly Play, served as a mentor for confirmation, works at the Festival-on-the-Hill, and currently serves on Memorial’s Compensation Committee.
Paul Seaton has been an active member of Memorial since 1993. He co-chaired the 2004 Gala, has coordinated several Ascension Day dinners, helps with the Festival-on-the-Hill, and has served as a Vestry member, a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Parish Profile Committee, and an usher. Paul regularly attends the 10:30 Sunday service and the 7pm Sunday Taizé Prayer Service. Paul became an Episcopalian in college when he was 22 years old after growing up fundamentalist; when he was 15 he was second runner up in the “Tennessee Bible Bowl.”
Stacy Wells has lived in Bolton Hill for over three years and currently works for the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, DC. She and her husband, Bill Wells, were married here in 2003 and regularly attend the 10:30 service. After attending the Memorial Inquirer’s Class, she was confirmed in 2004. She co-chaired the Capital Campaign and is a member of the Endowment and Debt Policies Committee. Stacy currently serves as co-chair for the Finance Committee. Memorial’s Christmas trees come from her family’s tree farm!
