ANNOUNCEMENTS

JANUARY 15: BRIDGING EAST AND WEST BALTIMORE -- TODAY a special lunch from 12:30-2:30pm focused on how to bridge Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in East Baltimore with other organizations like the Cathedral and Episcopal Community Service of Maryland. Note from Nancy Newman, Memorialite and servant of God at the Ark, I would like to encourage you all to participate in this event. This will include a lunch followed by a presentation by core members of Amazing Grace who will discuss their involvement in BRIDGE and working in their community east of Hopkins Hospital on the issue of affordable housing. The lunch will be provided by members of Memorial. Please come and welcome our guests with Memorial’s grand hospitality!

PRAYER LIST: If someone you love is on the prayer list and can be removed to another section of the list OR THANKS BE TO GOD – can be taken off, please let the office know. Our prayer list is again growing long – but we never want to take off anyone off that needs to be there.

Would you LIKE TO BE A LECTOR (reader of the First or Second lesson) at the 10:30 service? Sign up at the back of the church beginning in January. Then make plans to come to a lector's workshop led by Matthew Stremba on Saturday morning, January 28th. New lectors schedule begins on February 5th.

CALLIGRAPHER needed to make entries into a new registry, and also to update our Memorial gift book. Please speak with Dale Balfour at 410-363-1359.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY —Join Martha+ and a group of inquiring minds as we undertake a more in-depth study of Islam in January.  We did a brief study of world religions in the fall and decided that we wanted to learn more about Islam.  We begin on Wednesday, January 4th from 10:30 -11:30 in the Lower Parish Hall.  The class will run through February. It’s not to late to join!

MINDFULNESS CLASS —Gina Sager, former surgeon and now mindfulness practitioner, will teach her 8 week mindfulness meditation course from 4pm-6pm in the upper parish hall. The classes will run through Sunday, February 26th with the request that the first two Sunday afternoons of March be reserved for snow make-up days. Gina teaches this class at Hopewell Cancer Retreat House as well a Breathe Books and other locations in Baltimore. In addition to the 8 two hour classes, you receive a meditation notebook and 4 CDs or cassette tapes with yoga and meditation practices. We are able to offer this course for the cost of $200 per person. As always, scholarship assistance for the course is available by seeing Martha+. The class is limited to 15 people. This is the final Sunday to join.

INQUIRER’S CLASS - Confirmation is intended to be an adult affirmation of faith. It is not just about membership in the Episcopal Church. It is about conversion of heart, and about mission and ministry; as much about forming and transforming people's lives, as it is about information. Someone said that at baptism, we become bearers of the Light, and at confirmation, we must become sharers of that Light. Stewart+ will lead this year's Inquirer's Class in preparation for confirmation or reception by the Bishop during Eastertide. Usually we meet for an hour and a half for 8 weeks. If you are interested, please join Stewart+ on Sunday, January 29th at noon in the Upper Parish Hall for a short meeting to decide on a convenient meeting time. If you cannot be at the meeting, just let him know of your desire to join the group.

Samaritan Community: FOOD PANTRY : spaghetti and as the cold weather is here, we do need all kinds of cough & cold medicine; coffee, tea, & cocoa; and any first aid supplies.

EUTAW-MARSHBURN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students need both LISTENERS and READERS. The 2nd graders need folks who will both read to them and listen to them read. The time is mostly in the morning first thing but can be adjusted in cooperation with the teacher. This would be for 1/2 hour or so at a time . The length and frequency can be arranged to suit the volunteer. Please let Pam Fleming know if you can be a 2nd grade helper. (410) 366-6827 or guypamsh@bcpl.net
