The Rev. Martha N. Macgill, Rector

Martha was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia where she sang faithfully in the junior choir at Christ Church. After receiving an A.B. degree from Davidson College, she went on to graduate with a J.D. degree from the University of Virginia Law School. After several years as a tax attorney and worshiping at St. Paul’s, Alexandria, she discerned a call to the ordained priesthood. Martha graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1995 and was the Assistant Rector at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia until 1997 when she was called to be Priest in Charge of St. Frances Anglican Church in Walkerville, South Africa. Martha, her husband Bryan Kelleher, and their children Jack, 16, and Anna, 12, moved back to the States in August 2000 to minister in this Memorial Community.

“My own sense of call -- why I do what I do -- centers on urban parish ministry in a culturally-diverse community. Memorial Church has sought to live out this call as well. So, God has led me here from South Africa to Bolton Hill in Baltimore to be with the people of Baltimore. I believe that any church community -- particularly an urban church -- is called by God to reach out to those in the world around us, particularly those suffering in any way. Through prayer, we become one with those who are suffering, one with the cross of Christ; through action, we become purveyors of Christ’s love and compassion. My hope for Memorial is that we may continue being that place that prays into action the love of God into the world.”

The Rev. Rondesia Jarrett, Assistant to the Rector

My name is Rondesia Jarrett. I was ordained as a priest in the summer of 2007 in the Diocese of Spokane in Washington state. I grew up in various places on the East coast and over seas due to being in a military family. I love to travel so when I graduated from high school, I decided to study at Gonzaga University to explore the Western part of the United States. At Gonzaga, I majored in Theater Arts and Broadcasting. I participated in various clubs and programs such as the G.U. Choir, Black Student Union, Unity House and the Broadcast production team. I attended seminary in Berkeley California at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 2001. CDSP gave me the opportunity to study with various denominations and to attend classes at their seminaries. I was able to explore African American Spirituality and Worship from various denominational perspectives. I participated in worship as a sacristan and I was a part of Seminarians for Worker Justices (an ecumenical group for workers rights). It was in seminary that I met my beautiful husband, Rev. Peter Schell. He is the assistant rector at Our Savior in Silver Spring Maryland. My interest is in exploring what it means to live out ones faith, creating prayerful environments, and being creative and fun in all our works. My calling is in youth ministry, community building and outreach ministry. Also, I love video games, movies, star trek, singing, and theater. I am excited about the call to Memorial Episcopal Church. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and exploring our faith together.

William Wisnom, a native of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, began studying piano at the age of eleven with Nancy Marstellar. Two years later, Bill entered the Peabody Preparatory where he continued training in piano under Corey McVicar and Carol Prochazka. In 1997, despite several years of preparation to enter college as a piano major, Bill embarked upon a year of organ study with local organist, Leo Wanenchak, and was accepted the following year into the undergraduate program of the Eastman School of Music where he studied organ with David Higgs, harpsichord with William Porter, as well as choral conducting and sacred music. Bill has been the recipient of prizes in the Dallas International Organ Competition, the Westminster Choir College Organ Competition, the Peabody Silvers Award in piano, and the National Federation of Music Clubs Award for composition.
Most recently, Bill has served as director of music at Govans Presbyterian Church and St. Pius X Catholic Church, Baltimore. Bill is thrilled to join the Memorial Church parish, and looks foward to becoming acquainted with everyone in the community.
